I. Project Background

With the expansion of campus scale and frequent personnel mobility, campus security issues have become increasingly prominent. To modernize campus governance and management, we plan to build an integrated access management platform. Supported by cutting-edge infrastructure and a comprehensive information service platform, this platform integrates information about people, vehicles, articles, situations and incidents within the campus, and coordinates all types of resources. It aims to realize efficient, safe and intelligent campus management through modern technologies.

II. Technical Support

This project is underpinned by computer vision and biometric identification technologies, combined with cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), the Internet and other advanced technologies to achieve interconnection of all campus resources, facilities, personnel, vehicles and articles. Technology-enabled automated operations will reduce labor costs and improve management efficiency, ultimately enhancing campus security, operational efficiency and service quality while cutting operating expenses.

III. Construction Objectives

1.      Improve campus security management
Install pedestrian turnstiles, facial recognition terminals, vehicle barriers and visitor registration terminals to centrally regulate personnel access, prevent unauthorized outsiders from entering the campus arbitrarily, and safeguard campus safety.

2.      Achieve interconnection of all devices
Leverage IoT technology to connect various campus facilities and equipment, enabling real-time data collection and transmission to underpin managerial decision-making.

3.      Optimize resource allocation
Coordinate and optimally allocate all campus resources via the comprehensive information service platform to boost resource utilization efficiency.

4.      Raise operational efficiency
Adopt cloud computing and big data technologies to conduct in-depth analysis and mining of campus operational data, identify potential risks and put forward optimization proposals to improve operational efficiency.

5.      Reduce operating costs
Realize automated management and intelligent monitoring via technological means to cut labor and maintenance costs, lowering overall campus operating expenditure.

IV. System Architecture

1.      Front-end Equipment
Including pedestrian turnstiles, facial recognition terminals, vehicle barriers and visitor registration terminals. These devices collect entry and exit data of personnel and conduct preliminary processing and identification.

2.      Communication Network
A hybrid wired and wireless network transmits data collected by front-end devices to back-end servers in real time.

3.      Back-end Servers
Receive, store, analyze and process data uploaded from front-end equipment. They also provide data interfaces and APIs for invocation by the comprehensive information service platform.

4.      Comprehensive Information Service Platform
The core component of the campus access control system, responsible for data integration, visualization and analysis. Administrators can monitor real-time campus access records, view various reports and analytical results, and implement management and decision-making via this platform.

V. Functional Realization

1.      Facial Recognition Function
Facial recognition terminals verify the identities of incoming and outgoing personnel to ensure only authorized individuals gain campus access. The system also captures photos and timestamps of all entries and exits for subsequent inquiry and analysis.

2.      Visitor Management Function
Visitor registration terminals support walk-in and pre-booked visitor registration. Visitors may register by scanning ID cards or entering mobile phone numbers. Visitor data is sent to back-end servers for review; approved visitors are granted access through vehicle/pedestrian barriers.

3.      Vehicle Management Function
The system supports license plate recognition and vehicle access control to identify and record all vehicles entering and exiting the campus. It also enables intelligent scheduling and optimization based on vehicle type, access time and other criteria.

4.      Alarm and Linkage Function
The system automatically triggers alarms upon detecting abnormal events such as unauthorized intrusion or equipment malfunction, and notifies administrators via SMS and email. It can also link with other security devices including surveillance cameras and alarms to deliver all-round security monitoring.

5.      Data Statistics and Analysis Function
The comprehensive information service platform features data statistics and analytical capabilities. It mines and analyzes data on personnel and vehicle access, generates diverse reports and analytical insights, and provides solid support for managerial decision-making.
