I. Background

With the acceleration of urbanization and the dense distribution of various buildings, fire safety is confronted with unprecedented challenges. Conventional fire protection systems can hardly meet the stringent fire safety requirements of modern cities. Therefore, we propose a smart fire protection system solution based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology to improve the response speed, accuracy and overall safety of fire-fighting equipment.

II. System Architecture

This smart fire protection system solution consists of three layers: the IoT device layer, the cloud platform layer and the application layer.

1.      IoT Device Layer
This layer is mainly composed of intelligent devices and sensors deployed inside various buildings, including smoke detectors, temperature detectors, ultraviolet flame detectors, combustible gas detectors and so on. These devices communicate with the cloud platform via multiple network access methods such as local area networks, public broadband networks, 5G mobile data networks and NB-IoT.

2.      Cloud Platform Layer
As the core of the system, the cloud platform receives, stores, processes and analyzes data transmitted from the IoT device layer. Leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms, the cloud platform can identify the location and scope of fire hazards and automatically send alarm notifications to firefighters. Meanwhile, it supports real-time monitoring and early warning of fire-fighting equipment and systems to guarantee their normal operation.

3.      Application Layer
This layer serves firefighters, fire management personnel and other relevant staff. Through mobile applications, web portals and other interfaces, users can view real-time status of fire-fighting equipment, receive alarm notifications, conduct trend analysis, risk prediction and other operations.

III. System Functions

1.      Real-time Monitoring and Analysis
The system monitors the status and data of fire-fighting equipment in real time and conducts analysis with AI algorithms to identify fire risks. Once a fire is detected, the system instantly sends alarm messages to firefighters, covering critical information such as fire location and affected area.

2.      Early Warning and Emergency Response
The system can issue advance warnings of potential fire risks, allowing firefighters sufficient time for emergency preparation. In addition, it can automatically adjust the configuration and layout of fire-fighting equipment according to on-site fire conditions to achieve optimal response speed and precision.

3.      Data Visualization and Trend Analysis
The system provides an intuitive data visualization interface for firefighters and fire administrators to check and analyze fire safety data. Trend analysis enables them to predict potential fire risks in advance and implement corresponding preventive measures.

4.      Training and Education
The system provides training and educational resources for fire personnel to raise their awareness of fire safety and proficiency in emergency disposal. It also delivers real-time safety reminders and guidance to protect firefighters during mission execution.
